Peer groups are usually well established in most high schools, workplaces and members of theà  groupà  exert pressure to the new members joining the group.    Friendship among teenagers is one of the mostà  importantà  factors during development. Friendship gives themà  secureà  venue to discover their identity and experience a sense of belonging. It also cultivates their social skillsà  relevantà  for their future success. On the contrary,à  friendshipà  canà  influenceà  them negatively or positively whereby they end up submitting to negative or positive peerà  influence. Young peopleà  becomeà  influenced because of their self-image and self esteem. This serves as aà  motiveà  for them toà  identifyà  with groups that theyà  fità  or groups that willà  acceptà  them. Those dimensions of theà  selfà  thatà  are valuedà  by oneââ¬â¢s own peer group becomeà  veryà  outstandingà  in each young personââ¬â¢s self-assessment.à      Some peer pressure can beà  good. Thisà  is measuredà  by their outcome whereby positiveà  influenceà  of friendsà  is seenà  to playà  importantà  roles among the lives of peers. Positive peersà  setà  goodà  examples among themselves, and they tendà  to becomeà  goodà  role models for each other. They can influence each other on goal oriented activities such as working together inà  schoolà  work, discussing problems and personal issues together that can help one to makeà  goodà  decisions, listening to each other, offeringà  goodà  advice and developing a positiveà  cultureà  among others. Positive peer pressure can be used to encourage and promote social behavior, because as observed peers can have aà  powerfulà  effectà  on self-esteem.
